OSHIBANA
The Japanese art of flower pressing, known as 'oshibana', inspired us to embark on a creative family project during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
To stay entertained, our 5-year-old daughter, Hannah, became engrossed in a pet project pressing tiny flowers she had foraged during our neighbourhood walks using a miniature flower press kit.
Shooting in the confines of our home, my creative partner and husband, photographic artist Isamu Sawa, photographed her creations, which we turned into unique gift cards for Mother's Day to accompany a florist's choice bouquet created by me.
Although Hannah did not fully grasp the significance of our project created during COVID-19, she felt a sense of pride and happiness with her creations. Her flower pressings are now available in large-format Limited Edition prints.
